The white grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Cerceau, Epinette Blanc, Epinette Blanche, Lucane, Per Doré, Saint Pierre, Saint Pierre de l'Allier and San Per Doré. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it is a presumably natural cross between Gouais Blanc x Friulano (Sauvignonasse). However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular Genetics). It was a crossing partner in the new variety Aranel. The early-maturing vine is susceptible to powdery mildew and botrytis. It produces low-acid white wines with low alcohol content. It is cultivated in the Saint-Pourçain area on the upper course of the Loire in the Allier département. In 2016, however, only less than one hectare of vines was reported here (Kym Anderson statistics). There is also said to be a small population in Canada.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
