Salem

The white grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Carter x Black Hamburg (Schiava Grossa). Synonymes are Concord Russe, Henryetta, Hybrid Rogers N. 53, Concord, Rogers 22, Rogers 53, Roussky Concord, Russian Concord, Russky Concord and Salem Rozovyi. Genes from Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera are included. The hybrid was crossed in the USA in the middle of the 19th century by the breeder E. S. Rogers in Salem/Massachusetts. The red-berried vine is used as a wine grape and table grape. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
