The first vines in modern times were planted in Großgmain am Untersberg, a massif in the Berchtesgaden Alps in 2001. The vineyards cover seven hectares of vineyards on the Untersberg, on a vineyard of the Benedictine Michaelbeuern Abbey in the municipality of the same name and on the Mönchsberg in the city of Salzburg. The “Paris Lodron Kennel” has been growing on the latter since 2008 Frühroter Veltliner who produces around 500 bottles from this vineyard.
