The dwarf republic of San Marino (nicknamed "La Serenissima" - the Most Serene) with the capital of the same name covers 61 km² and is completely surrounded by Italy as an enclave. It is located in central Italy between the regions of Emilia-Romagna and Marche. The vineyards cover 225 hectares of vines. Most of the winegrowers deliver their grapes to the Consorzio Vini Tipici di San Marino. Wines are produced from the Moscato Bianco (Muscat Blanc) grape varieties with the largest proportion of sweet sparkling wine, as well as Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco (Pinot Blanc).
