The winery is located in the municipality of Montecalvo Versiggia in the province of Pavia in the Italian region of
Lombardy. It was founded in 2000, but there is a documented reference to a settlement dating back to 1716, on the famous Via degli Abbati, which connected northern Europe with Rome in the Middle Ages, and passed the monastery of Bobbio, famous for its scriptorium (library). The farm describes itself as "Boutique Winery" (small winery) under family management. The owner is Antonio Pernice, who also controls all the production steps. The oenologist Giuseppe Zatti works in an advisory capacity. The vineyards cover ten hectares of vineyards at an altitude of 370 to 400 metres above sea level in the DOC/DOCG area of
Oltrepò Pavese. From there, there is a 360° panoramic view of the Apennines, the Po Valley, Milan and the Alps.
The red wine varieties Pinot Nero, Barbera and Croatina, as well as the white wine varieties Moscato Bianco and Riesling are cultivated and advised by the "Scuola Italiana di Potatura
Simonit & Sirch". Only our own grapes are processed. From environmentally friendly vineyard management to vinification and
bottling, all work is carried out by the company itself. The required energy is generated directly by a photovoltaic system on the roof of the winery. Due to the wine cellar directly adjacent to the vineyards, the transport distances or times for the grapes after the harvest are very short and gentle.
Premium wines are the DOC wines Profondo di SanMichele - Rosso Oltrepò Riserva (45% Barbera and Croatina each, 10% Uva Rara, 24 months in French barrique), Pynòs - Oltrepò Pavese Pinot Nero (100% Pinot Nero) and Gloria - Oltrepò Pavese Moscato Passito (100% Moscato, 24 months in wood). About 50,000 bottles of wine are produced annually, 70% of which are exported mainly to England, the Netherlands, Germany and Canada. The winery is a founding member of Distretto del Vino di Qualità dell'Oltrepò Pavese, and a member of the Consorzio di Tutela del Vino dell'Oltrepò Pavese and Coldiretti.
