DOC area for an extremely extensive range of red, rosé and white wines in the Italian region Campania
, It is named after the historical and geographical region in the southern Apennines, which was inhabited by the Samnite tribe in ancient times. There is also a municipality called San Giorgio del Sannio. From the 2012 vintage onwards, the wines of the four DOC areas Guardia Sanframondi
(Guardiolo), Sant'Agata de 'Goti
and Taburno that were closed were
included. The large zone comprises the entire province of Benevento with around 80 municipalities with the subzones Guardia Sanframondi (Guardiolo), Sant'Agata dei Goti, Solopaca, Solopaca Classico and Taburno. Their names are listed on the bottle label after the DOC name Sannio. There are some differences in the product range for each subzone.
