Sauer Horst

The estate is located in the commune of Escherndorf (Maindreieck area) in the German wine-growing region Franconia, It was founded in 1977 by Horst Sauer. The vineyards cover 17.5 hectares of vineyards in the individual layers mountain, Furstenberg and bounder (Escherndorf) and Sonnenberg (Untereisenheim). They are planted with the white varieties Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Bacchus, Pinot Blanc and Scheurebe, as well as with the red varieties Pinot Noir and Domina. The grapes, the must and the wine are moved almost exclusively by gravity in the newly built four-story building using the shortest possible routes. This gentle treatment in connection with a long, restrained fermentation produces particularly delicate, pure-toned wines. A specialty of the house is the entire range of specialty wines from selection to ice wine. The best wines are considered Big plant marketed. Depending on the circumstances, “specials” such as the dry white wine “Sehnsucht” (Silvaner) are pressed occasionally. According to the winery's own definition, these are special wines that are individually characterized by the extraordinary inspiration of a moment. Around 150,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of VDP (Verband deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) and at the winegrowers' association Frank & Frei,
