Sauvignac

The white grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between (Sauvignon Blanc x Riesling) x unknown resistance partners. Synonyms are VB Cal 6-04 and Valentin Blattner Cal 6-04. It contains genes from Vitis amurensis and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed by the vineyard owner Valentin Blattner in Soyhières in the canton of Jura in Switzerland. The late-ripening, loose-berried and frost-hardy vine with pink hard-skinned berries is resistant to both powdery mildew and botrytis, which is why it is considered a PIWI variety. It produces white wines with aromas of apricots, apples, lime and cassis. The variety is cultivated in small quantities in Germany; among others, by the wineries Timo Dienhart (Mosel) and Ansgar Galler(Pfalz). In 2016, two hectares of vineyard were designated (Kym Anderson).
