Producer description of "Weingut Scherner-Kleinhanß"

The winery is located in the municipality of Försheim-Dalsheim (Wonnegau area) in the German wine-growing region of . It was founded in 1726 by Josef Jodokus Scherner. The present name resulted from the marriage of Jakob F.H. Scherner to Hannelore Kleinhanß in 1954. Today, the winery is run by the ninth generation of the family, Klaus R. Scherner, who, after studying viticulture in , first gained experience in Canada for four years before starting to work at the winery in the mid-1980s. The vineyards cover 11.5 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites and Sauloch (Dalsheim), Rosengarten (Monsheim), as well as , Goldberg and Steig (Flörsheim-Dalsheim). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Bacchus, Ortega and Pinot Gris, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Dornfelder and Blauer Portugieser. With low yields, selective manual harvesting and gentle working methods, the quality philosophy of preserving as much as possible of the soil and grape variety in the wines is consistently pursued.
