The red grape variety (also Merano Vernatsch) originates from Italy. The variety is a member of the heterogeneous name group Schiava. The origin (parentage) is unknown. It is possibly a variant or mutation of the Schiava Grossa variety. It is cultivated under the name Meraner Vernatsch by the Meran Winery. In 2016, however, no stocks were reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
