The winery is located in Strebersdorf (part of the 21st district Floridsdorf) in the northwest of Wien (Austria). A wine tavern is attached. The winery is run by Dipl. Ing. Herbert Schilling and his wife Ingeborg. The vineyards cover eight hectares of vineyards on the southern side of the Bisamberg in the Gernen and Jungenberg vineyards. They are 60% planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling, Gelber Muskateller, Bouvier and Traminer, and 40% with the red wine varieties St. Laurent, Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The near-natural, beneficial insect-friendly cultivation is carried out according to the guidelines of integrated pest management. This includes soil care with grass mulch and green manure, as well as the renunciation of herbicides and mineral fertilisers. Quality-enhancing measures include pruning according to variety, consistent foliage care and thinning out. Only ripe and healthy grapes are processed through selective manual harvesting.
The wines are vinified after controlled and cooled fermentation according to regional and varietal characteristics. The premium wines include the red wine cuvée "Camilla" (St. Laurent, Blaufränkisch), aged in French barriques made of Allier oak, Wiener Grüner Veltliner, Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC and the sparkling wine "Vienna Classic Brut" (Welschriesling, Veltliner, Riesling). In years with suitable weather conditions, ice wines are also produced. Around 15,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the Vienna Classic Association, whose chairman has been Herbert Schilling since 2007.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
