Schlossgut Diel

The estate is located in the community of Burg Layen-Rümmelsheim in the German wine-growing region Near, The origins of "Leyen Castle" go back to the end of the 13th century. It was built on a rocky ridge in the Trollbachtal on the lower reaches of the Nahe just before the confluence with the Rhine. The area has three castles of various aristocratic owners with extensive land and vineyard property in the area. The present estate was completed in 1802 during the occupation of the Naheregion Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) The troops of Johann Peter Diel (1750-1811) were acquired by Heribert Wolfgang Freiherr von Dalberg after the Diel family had leased them for decades. Today, the winery operation of Armin Diel and his daughter Caroline, butler is Christoph J. Friedrich.

The vineyards cover a total of 22 hectares of vineyards, of which the bulk in the VDP-Great locations Castle hill. Goldloch and Pittermännchen (Dorsheim), as well as in the VDP-first positions Schlossberg, Hell and Johannisberg (Castle Layen) is located. The large vineyards are planted exclusively with Riesling, in the first locations also play the varieties Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir an important role. On smaller areas, the varieties Chardonnay and Dornfelder are cultivated. According to the VDP-Nahe Statute, only the Rieslings from the best individual layers are marketed under the layer name.
