Producer description of "Weingut Schmachtenberger"

The winery is located in the municipality of Randersacker (Maindreieck area) in the German wine-growing region of . The family has been growing grapes in the Maindreieck for 700 years. The Randersacker branch moved to this municipality in the middle of the 16th century. Since 2015, the farm has been run by Markus Schmachtenberger, the 12th generation. The vineyards cover just under nine hectares of vines in the and (Randersacker) single vineyard sites. They are planted with the white wine varieties Silvaner, Riesling, Rivaner, Scheurebe, Sauvignon blanc, Bacchus, Kerner, Pinot blanc, Traminer and Rieslaner, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot noir, Domina and Portugieser.

is practised on 1.5 hectares according to the principles of viticulture. The renunciation of , however, applies to the entire vineyard. Quality criteria are careful pruning in winter, shoot correction in spring, and selective manual harvesting of ripe and healthy grapes. Depending on the type of wine, the wines are matured in steel tanks or in large wooden barrels. The product range is divided into litre wines (mostly from Großlage Ewig Leben), Das neue Franken, Das klassische Franken and Das große Franken with the top wines. Around 60,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the associations Fränkisches Gewächs and Generation Riesling as well as the Franconian winegrowers' group ETHOS.
