The estate is located in the Stratzing municipality in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region Kremstal, The family has been involved in viticulture since 1865. A vaulted cellar that is still in use is 350 years old. The vineyards cover 15 hectares of vineyards in Stratzing, in mountain terraces around Senftenberg and around the city Krems, They are planted with the white varieties Grüner Veltliner (main variety with 7 ha), Riesling, Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau, Neuburger and Gelber Muskateller, as well as with the red varieties Zweigelt and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards are based on the principle of KIP (controlled and integrated production) managed. The declared aim of the house is to produce the most elegant and fruity wines in the predicate range. Wines from the Grüner Veltliner are a specialty. The premium wines include various Grüner Veltliner and Riesling Kremstal DAC and Kremstal DAC Reserve, as well as the red wine blend Lena Marie (70% Zweigelt, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon). The wines are marketed with the initials "JS" on a black bottle label. Schmid wines are offered in numerous top Austrian restaurants and served at state banquets.
