The "Claus Schneider" winery is located in the municipality of Weil am Rhein (Markgräflerland area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. The family's ancestors have been growing grapes since 1425. Since 1892, viticulture has played an important role as the main source of income. Claus Schneider took over his parents' business in 1982 and expanded the vineyard to its current size. Since 2015, the traditional farm has been run by Johannes and Christoph Schneider. The vineyards cover 13 hectares in the single vineyard sites Stiege (Haltingen), Schlipf (Weil), Sonnhohle (Ötlingen) and Sonnenbrunnen (Lörrach-Tüllingen). They are planted with the red wine varieties Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir),) Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Chasselas. All wines are fully fermented and matured without residual sugar. After a long yeast storage, the white wines are not bottled before the end of July. The red wines mature for at least 12 months in large wooden barrels and barriques. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced.
