Schneider-Orelli Otto

The Swiss biologist and oenologist Dr. Otto Schneider-Orelli (1880-1965) studied natural sciences at the University of Bern from 1900 to 1905. Later he was an assistant at the Swiss Research Center for Fruit and Wine Growing in Wädenswil, where he worked on plant physiological, mycological (fungi) and entomological (insect) problems. In 1917 he was appointed lecturer in entomology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and in 1929 appointed professor. Schneider-Orelli has earned great merit in entomological training (insect science) and particularly through his extensive research work in this regard. A total of 110 papers deal with the phylloxera (especially on the racial issue) and the different types of Grape berry moth (For example "Single-Grained and Crossed Grape Wrapper" from 1915). He was also successful in the research and development of phylloxera-resistant documents active.
