The winery is located in the municipality of Zeltingen (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. The family has been growing grapes since the 16th century. For many decades, a wine trade was also operated, which was closed down in 1998. After a chequered history, the business was taken over by Martin Schömann in 1982 after he had completed his training as a wholesale merchant and master winemaker. At that time, the vineyard covered 0.9 hectares. The winery was founded in its current form in 1999. The vineyards cover 6.5 hectares of vines in the Großer Herrgott (Wintrich), Johannisbrünnchen (Bernkastel), Himmelreich, Schlossberg and Sonnenuhr (Zeltingen), and Domprobst and Himmelreich (Graach) sites. They are 90% planted with Riesling, as well as Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. The wines are matured in large wooden barrels. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and brandies are also produced.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
