single vineyard in the municipality of Hallgarten in the German wine-growing region of Rheingau. The name dates back to the early 14th century and means "Schöne Halde" or "beautiful slope". The south-facing vineyards at 165 to 190 metres above sea level with a slope of up to 30% cover almost 52 hectares of vineyards on shallow to deep loess and loess loam soils. They have an excellent water storage capacity. To the north, the vineyards are bordered and shielded by extensive forests with the 580-metre-high Hallgartener Zange. The Frühernberg vineyard, or rather the part of the vineyard that is considered to be a prime example, is registered as a cadastral site. The main varieties cultivated are Riesling, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. The Ankermühle, Barth Norbert, Bibo & Runge, Fürst Löwenstein, Geheimrat J. Wegeler Erben, Krone, Prinz Fred and Querbach wineries, for example, have shares in the site.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
