The white grape variety (also Red Semillon) originates from South Africa. It is a colour mutation of Sémillon. It probably originated around the year 1820. The berries are pink to red in colour. The variety was mostly cultivated together with the white version. In the 20th century, the stock declined sharply. Today, only a few hectares are planted with it, among others in the Swartland region. In 2016, however, no stocks were designated (Kym Anderson).

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
