Septimer

The white grape variety is a new variety between Red Traminer (Gewürztraminer) x Müller-Thurgau, which was confirmed by DNA analyses carried out in 2013. However, this is based on only 19 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). By the way, the two varieties Perle and Würzer originated from the same pair of parents. The cross was made in 1927 by the breeder Georg Scheu (1879-1949) at the State Institute for Vine Breeding in Alzey (Rhineland-Palatinate). The vine produces spicy, rather low-acid wines. Due to its special aromatic properties, it is known as a so-called bouquet variety. In 2018, one hectare was designated in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen (D-STATIS).
