Sercialinho

The white grape variety is a new variety between Vital x Uva Cão according to DNA analyses carried out in 2020. In the process, the Alvarinho sire, which is mentioned in the breeding list, turned out to be wrong. Uva Cão is also a synonym for the variety Sercial. It is not clear whether Uva Cão is an independent variety or perhaps Sercial. Synonyms are Cercealinho, Cercialinho and Sercealinho. The cross was made in the 1950s by the breeder José Leão Ferreira de Almeida in Portugal. The late maturing vine is moderately resistant to botrytis. It produces acidic, alcohol-rich white wines with aromas of green apples, pears and a slight honey flavour. The variety is cultivated in the central-western area of Bairrada. In 2016, four hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson).
