Serena

The white grape variety is a new variety between Saperavi Severny x(Foster's White Seedling x splendid grape). Synonyms resp. breeding-no. are Geisenheim 6495-4 and GM 6495-4) It contains genes of Vitis amurensis and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1964 by Vilém Kraus (1924-2103) in Lednice in the former Czechoslovakia. The breeding and selection of the seedlings was then carried out in Geisenheim (Rheingau) under Dr. Helmut Becker (1927-1990). With the same parents, the new variety Sibera was developed: the early ripening vine is resistant to both types of mildew and frost, and due to its loose berries it is not very susceptible to botrytis. It produces full-bodied white wines. In 2016, no stocks were recorded (statistics Kym Anderson).
