Setter Hans

The estate is located in the municipality of Hohenwarth in the Lower Austrian wine region Weinviertel, The traditional business dates back to the year 1705. It is now led by Hans and Uli Setzer; who both graduated as viticulture engineers Wine school Klosterneuburg are. Its own vineyards cover 15 hectares of vineyards, of another 15 hectares of grapes are purchased by contract growers.

They are all within a radius of two km in the vicinity of the winery at the foot of the Manhartsberg at 365 m above sea level. The best Rieden are Eichholz (light loess soil with very high lime content), Kreimelberg (up to 30 m deep gravel soil) and Laa (sandy brown earth with a very high lime content). 85% of the white varieties are Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Roter Veltliner, Pinot Blanc and Riesling, as well as the red varieties Zweigelt and Merlot. Despite very little rainfall, there is no artificial one irrigation so the vines have to root deeply.

For new plantings, documents from France are imported and refined with self-selected noble eyes from our own 30-year-old plants. These new vines are then planted with a very high density of up to 8,000 vines per hectare (normally about 3,000). Due to a lower per-rod load, a longer lifespan up to 60 years can be achieved in the sandy soils.

It will be near-natural viticulture with complete abandonment of chemical fertilization and herbicides practiced. The love of the house belongs to the Grüner Veltliner. This one is called Weinviertel DAC marketed with different additional designations. The flagship of the house is "Weinviertel DAC 8000". It is also produced bottle fermented sparkling wine. The wines are exported worldwide to more than 15 countries, including the United States. The winery is a member of the association Premium wineries Weinviertel,
