Seyve Joannes

Joannes Seyve (1900-1966) was the son of the famous French grape grower Bertille Seyve (1864-1939), who is in the well-known breeding company Seyve Villard in Saint-Vallier on the Drôme worked in the Rhone Valley. Under the name Joannes Seyve plus sequential number there is in the VIVC catalog (Geilweilerhof) over 50 interspecific new varieties, from Seibel- and or Seyve vines (Seibel x Seibel or Seyve x Seibel) were crossed. There were complex crosses of American vines like Vitis aestivalis. Vitis cinerea. Vitis lincecumii. Vitis riparia and Vitis rupestris as well as European Vitis vinifera, The Joannes-Seyve vines served as the base material for further new varieties. The best known are Joannes Seyve, Joannes Seyve 26-205 who is one of the very few with the sounding name Chambourcin received, as well Joannes Seyve 23-416,
