Province on the east coast to the Yellow Sea at the lower course of the Yellow River in the central east of China southeast of Beijing. The contents of 200 clay pots found in 1995 near the city of Rizhao, which were dated to 2,600 B.C., indicate that wine was cultivated as early as 4,600 years ago. Residues of grape wine were found in these. In 1892, the businessman Chang Bishi (1841-1916) founded the "Chang Yu" winery in Yantai; today, under the name Yantai Changyu, it is one of the largest wine producers. Lao Shan and Da Za Shan are considered the best sub-areas with about 20% of the vineyards. The climatic conditions are ideally suited for European grape varieties.
