This DO area corresponds geographically to the DO area Malaga
and thus includes just like this almost 1,200 hectares of vineyards. The classification was only in 2001 and includes red wines, rosé wines and white wines with less than 15% vol alcohol content. The red and rosé wines are mainly blended from Romé, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Tempranillo. Also allowed are Garnacha Tinta, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Petit Verdot. The white wines are produced mainly from the varieties Pedro Ximénez, Moscatel de Málaga (Muscat d'Alexandrie), Moscatel Morisco (Muscat Blanc), Chardonnay, Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc. Lairén (Airén), Doradilla and Colombard are also allowed.
