Signargues

Independent municipal area in the Département Gard in the southern French appellation Côtes du Rhône-Villages (see AOC regulations there). The area is very steeped in history, the Romans already cultivated wine here. Archaeologists found a double-faced statue with the faces of the wine god Bacchus and Ariadne, which is now on display in the Louvre in Paris. The place went down in history in 736 after a victory of Charles Martell (688-741) against the Saracens. Since 2004, the name may also be mentioned on the label of red wines. The vineyards, at an altitude of 150 metres above sea level, cover 650 hectares of vineyards in the four communes of Domazan, Estézargues, Rochefort du Gard and Saze.
