Silcher

The white grape variety (breeding number Weinsberg S 377) is a new breeding between Kerner x Grüner Silvaner, which was confirmed by DNA analyses published in 2012. The cross was made in 1951 by August Herold (1902-1973) at the Weinsberg State Teaching and Research Institute in Württemberg. The plant variety protection was granted in 1990. The name was given to the composer Friedrich Silcher (1789-1860), born in Schnait-Württemberg, from whom, among other things, the well-known song "Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten" (I don't know what it means) originates. The vine produces yellow-green, delicately fruity wines similar to those of Silva. In 2016 only one hectare was designated in Germany(Württemberg) (Kym Anderson).
