The red grape variety originates from Greece. Synonyms are Kasteliotiko, Mavros Arkadias, Skylopnichtis Kokkino, Skylopnichtra and Skylopnihti. Nothing is known about the ancestry (parentage) and a possible genetic relationship to the white variety Skylopnichtis Lefkos. It probably originates from the island of Zakynthos or from the Peloponnese. It is an all-female grape variety. The medium to late ripening vine is susceptible to botrytis and downy mildew. It is cultivated on Zakynthos and used as a blending partner. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
