Sogrape

Largest wine production company Portugal, with ownership of wineries in the wine-growing regions Alentejo (Vinha do Monte), Bairrada (Quinta d'Aguieira), dão (Quinta dos Carvalhais), Douro (Ferreira) and Vinho Verde (Quinta de Avelada, Quinta do Azevedo) belong. The vineyards cover a total of 1,400 hectares. Sogrape is majority owned by the Guedes family, whose winemaking tradition dates back to the 17th century. One of the ancestors was Viceroy in India. The ascent began in 1942 when Fernando van Zeller-Guedes founded the company and the Quinta de Avelada (120 hectares), the most successful and best-selling wine in Portugal today Mateus created. Sogrape is also the largest producer of Vinho Verde. A large range of branded wines are largely made from local grape varieties. The best known are Barca Velha, Duque de Viseu (red wine), Gazela (Vinho Verde), Grão Vasco (red and white wine), Morgadio de Torre (Vinho Verde).
