Soperga

The red grape variety is a new breed between Barbera x Chatus (Nebbiolo di Dronero). Synonyms are Dalmasso 4-31, Incrocio Dalmasso IV/31 and Superga. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2010, the breeding list entry Nebbiolo x Barbera turned out to be incorrect. The crossing was made in 1937 in Conegliano (Veneto) by Giovanni Dalmasso (1886-1974). With the same parents, the new varieties Albarossa, Cornarea, Nebbiera and San Michele were created at the same institute. The medium to late ripening vine is resistant to fungal diseases. The variety is cultivated in the Piedmont region. In 2016, 17 hectares of vineyards were designated with a decreasing trend (Kym Anderson).
