South Carolina

The state on the southern Atlantic coast with the capital Columbia was one of the 13 founding states of the USA, Around the year 1680 settled here (and also in North Carolina ) Huguenots expelled from France and brought with them their viticulture skills. Among other things, Nicholas was Herbemont (1771-1839) to a large extent in Columbia as a vine grower. In 1816 Dorchester became the famous historical variety Isabella discovered. Be in larger quantities hybrids and varieties of the American species Vitis labrusca and Vitis rotundifolia cultivated. There is none yet AVA classified area and few production operations, these are Carolina Vineyards Winery, La Belle Amie Vineyard, Montmorenci Vineyards and Truluck Vineyards.
