southernmost vineyard

most southerly vineyard (GB)

Candidates for the southernmost cultivated vines on the earth's southern vine belt are wineries in the southernmost areas of the countries Argentina (Tierra del Fuego), Chile(Bío-Bío) or New Zealand (South Island). The "Black Ridge" winery in Alexandra between Queenstown and Dunedin on New Zealand's South Island claims to be the southernmost winery in the world. A little further south, however, there is another winery called "Dry Gully's Vineyards". The wine-growing region is Central Otago and lies at the 45th parallel. Due to climate change, some of the wine-growing areas are expected to shift; candidates are the countries of Australia, Chile and New Zealand. However, the wine-growing regions in the northern hemisphere will probably be much more affected.
