Such wines were formerly not only for the purpose of flavor improvement, but also because of the extension of the durability manufactured. Examples are already in the Roman antiquity known Piperatum (Pepper wine), the Hypocras from the Middle Ages, the Italian Marsala, the Greek Retsina (Resin) and the wormwood (Plant extracts).
