St. Hallett

The winery is located in Tanunda in the Barossa Valley in the state of South Australia. It was founded in 1944 by the Lindner family. In 1988, the estate was taken over by "Big Bob" McLean. The cellar master, who has been working on the estate since 1974, is called Stuart Blackwell. The vineyards cover 40 hectares and are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, Grenache Noir, Merlot, Mourvèdre, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Shiraz. The flagship of the house is the "Old Block Shiraz", which comes from 70 to over 100-year-old ungrafted vines. The extremely long-lived red wine is first aged for 12 months in American oak barrels and then in used French barriques. The 1990 vintage is dubbed the wine of the century. Wines are also marketed under the label "McLean's Farm".
