State Hofkeller Würzburg

The winery is located in the city Würzburg (Area Maindreieick) in the German growing area Franconia, The traditional Hofkeller was already founded in 1128, making it the oldest winery in Germany. It has been in permanent possession of the ruling power since the 12th century. These were the bishops of Würzburg, who were also dukes of Franconia, from 1814 the Bavarian royal family under the name Royal Bavarian Hofkeller (with interlude of the Grand Duke Ferdinand of Tuscany 1806-1814) and finally from 1918 the Free State of Bavaria under the name State Hofkeller Würzburg. The company was run as a teaching and sample good (see also under Weinbaudomäne ). Built in Baroque style between 1720 and 1744, the residence became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. In the cellar vaults is the treasury, The oldest wine stored in this wine library is a vintage 1874. Since 1950 there are Bocksbeutel rarities preserved all locations, grape varieties and vintages. Deep inside, the very sprawling and labyrinthine wine cellars extend.

As winemaker Klaus Kuhn and Friederike Voigtländer are responsible. The vineyards cover 120 hectares of vineyards in the following municipalities and individual layers: Abtswind Altenberg; Dorfprozelten with preaching chair; Großheubach with Bischofsberg; Handthal with Stollberg; Hörstein with Abtsberg; Iphofen with Julius-Echter-Berg; Marktheidenfeld with Kreuzberg; Randersacker with Lämmerberg, Marsberg. Pfülben and Sonnenstuhl; Thungersheim with Scharlachberg; as well as Würzburg with Inner bar, Schlossberg and stone, They are with the white varieties Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Kerner, Rieslaner (crossed here in 1921), Scheurebe, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Bacchus as well as the red varieties Pinot Noir, Frühburgunder, Dornfelder, Domina, Portuguese and St. Laurent planted. Wines out VDP-classified Layers are considered Big greenhouse marketed. The winery is a member of VDP (Verband deutscher Prädikatsweingüter).
