Steinborz

Reed or vineyard site (also Steinporz) in the municipality of Spitz a. d. Donau in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region Wachau. It is a hill in front of the Hartberg. Borz" or "Parz" used to refer to a rather flat elevation with a stony subsoil. The steeply terraced vineyards, which are oriented to the south-east, at an altitude of 234 to 339 metres above sea level, have a slope gradient of up to 57% and cover ten hectares. The deep soils consist of weathered gneiss with precipitated lime. The white wine varieties Riesling and Neuburger are mainly cultivated here. The Gebetsberger, Gritsch Mauritiushof, Hirtzberger Franz, Hofstätter, Lagler Karl and Nothnagl wineries, for example, have shares in the reed.
