Steinertal

A vineyard or site in the municipality of Unterloiben (Dürnstein) in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wachau. It forms an amphitheatre with a view of the opening Wachau wine-growing landscape, as indicated by the old name "Steingraben". The steeply terraced vineyards facing south to south-east at an altitude of 231 to 298 metres above sea level have slopes of up to 64% and cover almost six hectares. The barren primary rock weathered soils have a sandy, humus-poor topsoil covered with red-brown iron oxides. Along crevices and fissures, the vine roots can penetrate deep into the rock. The varieties Grüner Veltliner and Riesling are cultivated here. The wineries Alzinger, Pichler Franz Xaver, Tegernseerhof and Urbanushof Paul Stierschneider, for example, have shares in the vineyard.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
