, The creation is associated with one of the most interesting personalities in South African viticulture - William McGin Winshaw (aka Oubaas Winshaw), born in Kentucky in 1871. In his youth, he was a gold miner, Texas ranger and gambler, then studied medicine and came to South Africa as a caretaker of a mule transport. In the Boer War, he was a hospital doctor and then began to deal with viticulture. In 1924 he acquired the Oude Libertas Farm and in 1935 he founded the Stellenbosch Farmer's Winery, where he remained active until his old age.
