The "Riesling Winery Alfons Stoffel" is located in the municipality of Leiwen (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. It was taken over by Alfons Stoffel in the early 1970s. Since 1999, the 4-star guesthouse "St. Maximin" with four holiday flats has been attached. The vineyards cover four hectares of vines in the Bruderschaft (Klüsserath), Laurentiuslay (Köwerich), and Klostergarten and Laurentiuslay (Leiwen) sites. They are 95% planted with Riesling and some Pinot Blanc. In the vineyards, natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is consistently practised. After the longest possible vegetation phase, selective harvesting and gentle pressing, a slow, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the aromas. This is followed by individual maturation on the fine lees in partly traditional wooden barrels. In years with suitable weather conditions, an ice wine is also vinified. A bottle-fermented Riesling sparkling wine is also produced. Since March 2010, the winery and guesthouse have been a certified Mosel quality enterprise.
