The crossing of the hybrid took place in 1976 in Bulgaria by the breeder I. Ivanov. The name was given after the ancient Roman name for the city of Pleven. The productive vine is resistant to both mildews and Botrytis, as well as against wintry frost, It produces acidic, alcohol-rich red wines with aging potential. The acreage in 2010 was 295 hectares in Bulgaria, mainly in the province of Pleven. It is also called table grape used.
