The winery is located in the municipality of Obermarkersdorf at the foot of the Manhartsberg near Retz in the north-east of the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Weinviertel. In the mid-1960s, Herbert Studeny senior founded a wine trading company. From 1986 onwards, he began to focus fully on quality with reduced yields. Today he is responsible for the vineyard. Herbert Studeny junior graduated from the HBLA for Viticulture and Pomiculture in Klosterneuburg in 1997 and then gained practical experience in Australia (Hunter Valley), California (Napa Valley) and Alsace. He is responsible for cellar technology and marketing at the winery and describes himself as a "fruit fanatic". He is also chairman of the winegrowers' association Weingüter Retzer Land.

The vineyards cover 16 hectares of vineyards in the Atschbach, Nußberg, Sündlasberg and Triftberg vineyards, for example. They are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner (one third), Riesling,Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Bl anc and Chardonnay (85%) and with the red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Blauer Portugieser and Zweigelt (15%). The vineyards are cultivated in a natural, environmentally friendly way with quality pruning, part-time planting and intensive foliage work. Yields are strictly reduced by thinning out. The primary goal is physiologically ripe grapes.

After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the white wines are left to mature on the fine le es for a longer or shorter period, with repeated stirring. For the red wines, a more or less long maceration takes place depending on the degree of ripeness of the grapes. The classically vinified varieties then mature for about a year in large wooden barrels or, in the case of top wines, for over a year in French barriques. Premium wines are various Weinviertel DAC (Grüner Veltliner), Chardonnay Triftberg, Urgesteinsriesling Triftberg and the barrique-aged red wine cuvée "Hangenstein". In years with suitable weather conditions, Trockenbeerenauslesen and ice wines are also produced. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced.
