The white grape variety is a new cross between Chardonnay x Plavaï(Plavay), which was confirmed by DNA analyses carried out in 2018. The cross was made in 1949 in Ukraine by the breeder Y. S. Komarova. Plant variety protection was granted in 1969. The variety was a crossing partner in the new variety Kangun. The medium ripening vine is resistant to frost down to minus 20 °Celsius. It is used for the production of wine, sparkling wine and table grapes. The variety is cultivated in the regions of Kherson, Nikolaev and Odessa. The Ukrainian cultivation area in 2010 was 1,477 hectares; however, no stock was reported in 2016. There are other stands in Moldova (325 ha) and Russia (80 ha). In 2016, a total of 405 hectares of vines were reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
