Sula

The winery is located in Nashik northeast of Bombay in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It was founded in 1996 by engineer Ranjeev Samant, who was formerly employed in California's Silicon Valley. His winemaker is the Californian Kerry Damskey. It started with 12 hectares, today the vineyards cover 600 hectares, which are planted with the red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Zinfandel, and the white wine varieties Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. In the meantime, there are five wineries. They also produce bottle-fermented sparkling wines. Together with the Italian Asti producer Bosca, a low-alcohol (8% vol), sweet, lightly sparkling "women's wine" called "Dia" was created for the Indian market and will be marketed from 2008. In 2007, a total of two million bottles of wine were produced, thus establishing the company at the top.
