The British wine author Serena Sutcliffe MW (* 1945) is considered the world's leading authority in the wine sector and is also a profound one wine critic, She is with the wine author David Peppercorn MW married, who like her the coveted title of a Masters of Wine wearing. The two were the very first MW couple, she was the second MW woman. Sutcliffe managed the International Wine Department in the famous auction house Sotheby's, headed the worldwide Auctions and was appointed Honorary Chairman Sotheby's Wine. She writes regularly for many international publications and is a regular interview partner, lecturer and knowledge broker in TV programs in Europe, the USA and Asia. Her standard work "The Wines of Burgundy" with 600 producers described therein and their wines was published in 2005 in its 8th edition.
In 1988, she received the French government award for her literary achievements as "Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" (Order of the Arts and Literature). She received numerous other awards. These included the 1993 appointment to the "Académie Internationale du Vin", 2002 the "New York Institute of Technology's Professional Excellence Award" and 2006 the "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the "Society of Bacchus America". To top it off, she was awarded the title “Chevalier dans l'Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur” in 2006 for her pioneering work in promoting and selling French wines. See also under literature,
