Suvereto

DOCG area for red wines in the Maremma landscape in the Italian region of Tuscany. The wines formerly included in the Val di Cornia DOC area, or the municipality of Suvereto in the province of Livorno, were highly classified as a separate area in 2011 (the name of the municipality was allowed to appear on the bottle label at the time of DOC classification). If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna followed by the name of the vineyard can be indicated on the bottle label. The Suvereto is made from Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Merlot (85%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 15%). The three pure wines Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon must contain at least 85% of the respective variety. They must have an alcohol content of at least 12.5% by volume. All wines may call themselves Riserva with at least 13% vol. alcohol content and a maturation period of 18 months in barrel and 6 months in bottle.
