Sylvoz Education

A training system named after the Italian winemaker Carlo Sylvoz from Conegliano in the wine-growing region of Veneto. It is one of the many variants of trellis training and, in a broader sense, also belongs to the large group of so-called cordon training systems. At a trunk height of 140 to 160 centimetres, a single-arm cordon is pulled downwards (downwards instead of upwards, hence also reverse training). For the fruiting wood, two long fruiting arches with about ten eyes are cut, pulled downwards in a vertical direction and attached to a wire. The prerequisite is good vigour of the vines. However, this system is not recommended for dry growing areas.

A similar system is the Casarsa training, but with the long cut fruit shoots hanging freely. Very similar is also the Styrian arch training with double-stick planting as well as the Hudson River Umbrella training in the USA, which is identical to it. The also similar Umbrella Kniffin system, named after the inventor, is used among others in California for the grape variety Concord, which is shown in the video (click to view). There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
