Symphony

The white grape variety (Breeding No. Davis J 5-58) is a new cross between Muscat d'Alexandrie x Grenache Gris (Garnacha Roja). The cross was made in 1940 by the botanist Dr. Harold Olmo (1909-2006) at the University of California in the USA. The medium-maturing, high-yielding vine is susceptible to botrytis. It produces white wines with a light muscat tone. In California, the variety is mainly cultivated in the Central Valley and Sonoma County and is used for white and sparkling wines. In the USA, it occupies a total of 647 hectares with an upward trend. There are other small populations in Hawaii and South Africa (0.1 ha). In 2016, a total of 647 hectares of vines were reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
