Hungarian barrel type (formerly fauch Kassaier or Kaschauer Fass) with a volume of 200 to 220 litres, which is used today in the production of Tokaj. The name Szerednye hordó (hordó = cask) is derived from Szerednye, where the type used to be produced. This municipality, formerly part of Hungary, is now located in the far west of Ukraine (Ruthenia). See also under Göncer cask (old Tokaj cask), as well as complete lists under cask types and wine vessels.
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
