Table wine

vin de table (F)
vino da tavola (I)
vino de mesa (ES)
vinho de mesa (PO)
Table wine (GB)

Designation for the lowest wine quality level within the European Union (colloquially also known as table wine) after Landwein and Qualitätswein. In August 2009, a new EU wine market regulation came into force, which brought serious changes to the wine quality levels and wine designations under wine law. Among other things, the term "table wine" was eliminated or banned and replaced by wine. One reason was that this designation could give consumers the impression of higher quality. After all, the term "tafeln" means "to sit at a table and eat and drink festively". See in detail under Quality system.
